From the Eyes of a Child - submitted by Colleen Sipple

Updated: Oct 10, 2024

We love this poem by Colleen Sipple, a protective grandmother whose son is the protective parent for his little boy.

Thank you for sharing, Colleen!

From the eyes of a child,

An angry mom hits, then

Cries that they are sorry

And turns a head away

The pain never stops

When an innocent child

Is struck in the face

Who is there to save

When the act is justified

And continues to hurt

Every day, neglected and abused,

And no one cares

From the eyes of a child

Innocent and defenseless

Hurt by an addict

Unable to control themselves

A child crying uncontrollably

Hurt at the hands of a mom

Addicted and out of control

Taking it out on a child

All the pain, hurt and bruises

Caused by lack of care

Abuse, neglect and hate

Blaming a child for existing

From the eyes of a child

Hurting and crying out

Just needing love, care

and basic needs met

Hungry, wet and crying

They are told that they

Are satan’s child

And ruined the life of their abuser

God is not blind and deaf

He loves and cares

He will stop the hurt

Stop the abuse and neglect

Someone cares and prays

Someone loves and awakes

Someone calls the police

Reports it and gets help

From the eyes of a child,

Justice is served,

Love has won in the end,

And grace has rescued

A life is redeemed

A life is saved

All because someone

Cared enough to say stop.

Parent rights are not

More important than

The life of a child

And the preservation of life

From the eyes of a child,

The world begins to make sense

They deserve love, respect,

Food, clothing, safety

All the nights of no sleep,

Night terrors from trauma,

Tears and cries of pain

Healing begins to flow

Coming from the hands

Of a loving father

Who loves them and provides

Security and protection

From the eyes of a child

There is now hope

Healing, peace, rest,

Restoration of the trauma

God’s existence is real

His love has won

No more trauma, pain

Neglect and abuse

Like the refreshing rain

Falls upon parched ground

God’s love restores, heals

And brings hope for the child.

May God restore the abuser

May they repent for neglect

Turn their back on addiction

And overcome the past.

It is better for a millstone be hung

around their neck and thrown into the sea,

than to treat a child as such.

God has justice for all.

Protect the child who has

Been neglected, abused and hit

Give them space to heal

Give them love to restore

Away from their abuser.

Parents must learn

From the errors of their ways

Away from the child

From the eyes of the child

They deserve love

Protection, safety,

Needs met by ones who care

Keep the abuse away

Distant and afar

While they heal from the trauma

Heal from the pain

Angels surround them

Protect the innocent child

Fight the war, win the battle

For all eternity.
